Photos: Anderson . Paak @ Phoenix Concert Theatre

Anderson .Paak brought the Malibu heat of his sophomore album to The Phoenix in Toronto on Friday, July 22. And in more ways than one. Not only was .Paak’s musical talents on fire, but also his audience as the city was suffering from record-breaking high temperatures.

But the heat didn’t seem to phase the California native. In fact, if anything he appeared to be completely at home on the Toronto stage. He opened with his new unreleased track “Bubblin”, which perfectly set the stage with his irresistible stage presence, second only to his lyric delivery. In his long sleeve shirt, he wowed us over and over again for the duration of his short but very sweet set.

We also got a glimpse into the impressive breadth of musical capabilities as he moved to the right of the stage and went full throttle on a drum kit for his fourth song “Season / Carry Me”. It was also at this time that we got an intimate glimpse into the story behind the song. (In short, he really did want his mama to carry him after getting the Jordan’s of his dreams.)

With a nice blend of tracks from both Malibu and his 2014 release Venice, the near 45° Phoenix didn’t stop the dedicated crowd from soaking it all in until the very end (while they were soaking themselves).

Check out all of our concert photos from his set (photographed for Blare) below and peep the setlist after the gallery.
