Mastodon @ Sound Academy

Atlanta’s Mastodon are currently on tour with Gojira and Kvelertak. The only Canadian stop of the tour was in Toronto at the Sound Academy on May 10th, 2014 as part of Canadian Music Week

Mastodon recently announced some big news which was that their upcoming new full-length record Once More Round The  Sun will be released this year on June 24th, 2014 (via. Warner Music Canada). The tour is allowing them to be in the eyes of metal fans before they set out on a full tour supporting the release.

We also had a chance to sit down with Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor to talk about the new record and what’s to come of Mastodon in the upcoming months – stay tuned for that!

Photo wise… the show was not the best lighting conditions. Harsh blue lights were the dominate lighting choice for the band, which made for washed out blue tones popping up everywhere. The band also played more technical songs in the first three that had them standing still a lot and positioned farther back on stage. That didn’t make capturing them harder, it was just a big change to the usual high energy beginnings that bands come out with. All in all, Mastodon is one of the biggest metal acts today and it’s always an honour to try and capture some of their live shows, fantastic playing (pretty much perfect) and overall amazing vibe from these guys as usual.
