Gig Review: Django Django @ The Opera House

Django Django

“You’ve got rhythm and heart” Last night Toronto welcomed London based rock group Django Django to The Opera House to host the largest show they have played in the city to date. “You’ve got rhythm and heart”, they told the crowd; as they broke into their smash hit songs off Django Django’s 2012 self titled release. The band is gaining huge momentum on the festival circuit, and for good reason. The last time they played in Toronto it was at Wrongbar, back in October. Now only a few months later they’ve drawn a crowd into The Opera House and turned…

Django Django

The genre defying, London based Django Django brought their unique sounds and live show to The Opera House in Toronto on March 12, 2013. The band is currently on tour supporting their debut self-titled release (2012), as well as a remixed version of their debut album entitled Hi Djinx! Django Django (Remixed). The nights opener was Minneapolis psych rock band Night Moves whose sound mixes psych rock, indie and even some country twang. A perfect combination between Portugal. Swedish House Mafia @ Rogers Centre

Stockholm Sweden’s Swedish House Mafia are one of the biggest in the EDM world and their jam-packed, mostly SOLD OUT farewell tour has been proving that. The appropriately named “One Last Tour”, made it’s way through Toronto’s Roger Centre on Friday February 23, 2013 for their first night of two giant sized shows for Ontario fans. The production and light show of their first Toronto show was off the charts. The magnitude of graphics, lasers and wall tiled motion graphics was almost incomprehensible. The trio was placed on a giant set with digital screens completely surrounding them. With the odd…

Review: Sam Roberts Band @ Echo Beach

SamReview

I always thought it was a trend amongst university students to declare Thursday the new Friday. Everything good happened on Thursdays. Pub nights, dance parties, fundraisers- you name it. Why? People rarely had class on Friday. I figured once I finished university and got out into the ‘real world,’ people would stop partying on Thursdays for fear of early morning zombification. Not so, my friends. Not so. Maybe it’s just a symptom of the summer time, but Thursday night at Echo Beach was a party, and the man responsible for it was Montreal’s Sam Roberts. There are many things that…
