Photos: Burton Cummings at El Mocambo

This past Saturday night, Beyond The Watch had the privilege of photographing Canadian rock ’n’ roll icon Burton Cummings of The Guess Who as he performed at Toronto’s legendary El Mocambo for a rare and intimate performance. His team reached out to hire Beyond The Watch to capture the night, marking the first time Cummings has headlined the storied venue outside of a few guest appearances over the years.

The concert, part of Music That Moves, a fundraiser presented by MusiCounts, was limited to just 200 tickets, creating an incredibly intimate atmosphere between Cummings and his fans. Backed by his tight-knit band, he delivered a dynamic set that showcased why he remains one of Canada’s greatest voices. The crowd sang along to classics like “These Eyes,” “Stand Tall,” and “Break It to Them Gently,” while roaring at every note of “American Woman” and “No Sugar Tonight.”

At 77, Cummings’ voice and stage presence remain powerful and full of heart. The night was one of nostalgia, musicianship, and genuine joy, reminding everyone in the room why his music continues to endure.
