Mastodon have announced their new album Marrow Deep, arriving August 28 via Loma Vista Recordings, marking their first full-length release since the passing of founding guitarist and vocalist Brent Hinds. Alongside the news, the band have shared the powerful new single “Snakes For Dinner” featuring Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme.
The track carries added significance, with Homme returning for his first Mastodon appearance since 2006, while the band navigate a new era shaped by loss.
Five years on from Hushed and Grim, Marrow Deep documents a band working through grief while pushing forward creatively. The album draws on themes of fate, loss, and transformation, inspired in part by the Three Fates of Greek mythology, and channels the absence of Hinds into something expansive, heavy, and deeply personal.
While Hinds does not appear on the record, his presence is deeply felt throughout. His legacy as a defining voice and guitarist in Mastodon continues to echo across the album’s songwriting and emotional core, making Marrow Deep both a tribute and a turning point for the band.
The record also introduces a new chapter in Mastodon’s lineup, featuring guitarist Nick Johnston alongside contributions from João Nogueira, with production from Patrik Berger and Kurt Ballou.
To support the release, Mastodon will head out on The Poisonous Weapons Tour this fall with Deafheaven and Alcest. Canadian fans can catch them in Toronto on September 28 at Rebel and in Montreal on September 27 at MTelus.
