The Ocean have released “Belligerence,” the second single from their upcoming album Solaris, set to arrive September 25 via Pelagic Records.
Leaning into a heavier, more immediate sound, “Belligerence” pulls from the band’s earlier material while pushing forward with a renewed intensity. The track also highlights the band’s evolving lineup, with new vocalists Enrico Tiberi and Lane Shi bringing a dynamic contrast that adds both familiarity and a fresh edge.
The single ties directly into the album’s wider concept, which draws inspiration from Tarkovsky’s Solaris and explores themes of exploration, power, and human ambition. Across the record, The Ocean frame a narrative of escape from a collapsing Earth, using historical references to past explorers as a way to question modern leadership and the cost of progress.
“Belligerence” itself zooms in on something more immediate, tackling the culture of conflict and the way anger is often reframed as rational thought.
Solaris marks the band’s 12th studio album and continues their run of concept-driven releases, with pre-orders available now ahead of its September release.
