Best New Music This Week: Interpol, Mastodon, Wine Lips, and More

Every Friday, we challenge ourselves to sift through new music releases and curate a list of albums we think you should be listening to.
Leading the charge this week is Interpol with This Mirror Weighs A Ton, the New York post-punk veterans’ anxious yet hopeful eighth album that turns its gaze inward and outward, examining identity, technology, and the surveillance state across their most focused record in years. Mastodon return with Marrow Deep, an intense ninth album and first without founding guitarist Brent Hinds, channeling grief and ambition into a sprawling, guest-laden set that ranks among the year’s heaviest and most emotional releases. Toronto’s own Wine Lips get gloriously straightforward on TV Dinner, their most direct rock record to date, leaning into punchy riffs and unvarnished energy. Alabama Shakes resurface after 11 years with I Must Be Dreaming, an expansive, psychedelic-soul-infused return that balances domestic tenderness with sharp social observation. Montreal psych-rockers Elephant Stone deliver Asha, a future-psych classic that transforms grief into hope through luminous songwriting and shimmering textures. Rounding things out is Ty Segall with Chrome, a collaborative, band-driven plunge into towering riffs and apocalyptic garage-rock swagger alongside his longtime crew. All six albums are out today.
