Houston-raised singer-songwriter Emma Ogier is one to watch.
With recent co-signs from Dominic Fike and Kevin Abstract, Ogier is starting to get the kind of attention that usually signals something bigger is coming. She’s currently on the road supporting Whitney, and landed in Toronto for a stop at The Concert Hall that felt like an early look at an artist on the verge of breaking through.
What makes Ogier particularly exciting is that she doesn’t feel like another artist chasing whatever sound is currently getting clicks. Her songwriting is sharp, her musicianship is undeniable, and there’s something refreshingly imperfect and genuinely personal about the way she performs. In a landscape that can sometimes feel oversaturated with copy-and-paste artists, Ogier feels like the real thing.
During her Toronto set, Ogier also teased her upcoming debut studio album, Fly 1111, giving fans an early glimpse of what’s next. If the songs we heard are any indication, there are big things ahead.
We were captivated by her set and left feeling like we had just watched the beginning of something.
