Chicago’s Whitney returned to Toronto for the first time in years, bringing their current North American tour to The Concert Hall while celebrating a decade of their acclaimed debut album, Light Upon the Lake.
Ten years after Light Upon the Lake introduced Whitney’s warm, melancholic take on indie rock, the album still holds up. The band revisited tracks from the beloved debut throughout the night while also bringing songs from their latest album, Small Talk, which was released in 2025.
For those of us who have been waiting a while to see Whitney back in Toronto, it was a welcome return. Julien Ehrlich and Max Kakacek brought that familiar warmth to The Concert Hall, delivering the kind of set that made it easy to remember why Light Upon the Lake became such a beloved record in the first place.
Hopefully it won’t be quite so long until they’re back.
